These sculptures were created from shells I found on the ocean shore. I've long been fascinated by our planet's past. Paleontologists have made amazing discoveries, digging up fossilized remains of ancient animals from the depths of the Earth's surface. But almost no soft tissue remains of flowers have been preserved. Looking at the shells washed up on the shore, I wanted to fill this gap and "recreate" what was missing.
To do this, in addition to the shells, I needed wire, rope, glue, oil paint, and cement.
The resulting flowers seem to grow out of the stone. It's as if a paleontologist had carved these precious, rare flowers from the rock and, carefully holding them in both hands, placed them before the viewer: look, admire.
